Ranaghat gang-rape: Kolkata to host solidarity rally today

Kolkata, Mar 16 (IBNS): The Christian community in Kolkata will host a solidarity rally against the alleged gang rape case of the 72-year-old nun of a school-cum-convent in West Bengal's Ranaghat city last week.

The rally will be held at around 4:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress will raise the issue in the Parliament on Monday.

Conforming the move, TMC MP Derek O' Brien tweeted: "Given notice in RS to raise the unfortunate incident of the alleged rape of a 72 year old nun in #Ranaghat. Such issues are beyond politics."

"Stop spreading rumours. Please. I just spoke to the National head of CJM. She informed me that the nun's condition is stable #Ranaghat," he said.

Herod Mullick ,State Working President,  Bangiya Christiya Pariseba, told IBNS: "Today, a solidarity rally will be held in the city."

He said another  protest rally will be held on Wednesday.

The police have detained 8 people in connection with the incident so far.

Continuing the horror of crimes against women, around eight dacoits allegedly gang raped the nun late on Friday night.

She was admitted in a hospital and underwent a surgery.

According to reports, the accused broke into the Convent of Jesus and Mary after 1 am and allegedly raped the "ailing nun".
