Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress will raise the issue in the Parliament on Monday.

Conforming the move, TMC MP Derek O' Brien tweeted: "Given notice in RS to raise the unfortunate incident of the alleged rape of a 72 year old nun in #Ranaghat. Such issues are beyond politics."

"Stop spreading rumours. Please. I just spoke to the National head of CJM. She informed me that the nun's condition is stable #Ranaghat," he said.

Herod Mullick ,State Working President,  Bangiya Christiya Pariseba, told IBNS: "Today, a solidarity rally will be held in the city."

The police have detained 8 people in connection with the incident so far.
