SC directs Congress to file EC orders in Modi, Shah cases

| @indiablooms | May 06, 2019, at 10:36 pm

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Congress to file the EC orders, giving clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, as the Opposition party said no reason was given by the Election Commission (EC) in the case.

Counsel for the Congress Abhishek Manu Singhvi submitted to the bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, that five of the six clean chits had dissented by one Election Commissioner.

Congress told the SC that the EC gave clean chit to Mr Modi and Mr Shah for certain speeches that violated the MCC.

Congress said similar speeches by others had invited the EC's wrath, but strangely, the Commission was silent on Mr Modi and Mr Shah.

The matter would now be heard by the CJI bench on Wednesday.

Congress Parliamentarians from Silchar, Assam, Sushmita Dev, had knocked the doors of the apex court, seeking strict and necessary action against Mr Modi and Mr Shah, for their alleged speech and violation of the MCC.

The EC had, however, given clean chit to both of them on all cases.
