Srinagar/UNI: The Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces on Tuesday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama ended late last evening after about 55 hours, official sources said on Friday.

An Army soldier and a jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police were martyred and an unidentified militant was killed in the encounter.

The CASO was launched by Rashtriya Rifles (RR), SOG and CRPF following a tip off about the presence of militants at village Zantarag, Khrew which is surrounded by Dachigam and Tral forest. Residents of the area were taken to safer places after encounter ensued between militants and security forces.

They said in the initial firing a SOG jawan was killed and two soldiers injured on Tuesday. One of the two soldiers later succumbed in 92 Base hospital on Wednesday.

However, militants who had managed to escape from the area were again trapped at Nagrattan, about 2 km from Zantarag. A militant was killed by the security forces on Wednesday. Body of the militant and some arms and ammunition has been recovered, they said, adding the slain militant has not so far been identified.

However, the operation was called off late last evening after no more militant was found in the area.
