Bhubaneswar/UNI: The cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’, likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours, will weaken into a cyclonic storm, Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) Director Dr.Sharat Sahu said here today.

Dr.Sahu said based on preliminary analysis of different models, the system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly to the north-northwesterly direction and lay centred about 180 km south-east of Puri on Saturday and 140 km east-northeast of Puri on Sunday before weakening into a cyclonic storm.

The system, he said with lower intensity might oscillate between Puri and Bhadrak along the Odisha coast up to November 12 before dissipating itself.

However, the associated cyclonic circulation might persist for a day more, he said.

Dr.Sahu said there is a high probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur Kendrapara, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Cuttack and extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in these districts between November 8 and 10.

Widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall might also occur in this region on November 11, he added.

There was also a high probability of heavy rainfall during this period in the districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh and Ganjam. Moderate to heavy rainfall might commence on Thursday night or early Friday morning, the CEO Director said.

Besides, widespread precipitation is likely to occur in the southern part of Odisha on November 12 and 13 including heavy rainfall at one or two locations.

Wind, speed varying between 75 to 100 kmph, could commence in the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak on the night of November 8 and would reduce to 50 to 75 kmph on November 10, Dr.Sahu said.
