"Shadow of terror haunts our children": Afghan President
New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS) Calling for overcoming terrorism, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday stressed the need for forging unity in combating the menace.
"The shadow of terror haunts our children, women and youth. Terror must be confronted and must be overcome,'' Ghani said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi's Hyderabad House. "We must be united both in region and globally to continue this phenomenon,'' he added.
Ghani's visit to India comes after seven months after his swearing-in as President of Afghanistan.
He said he wanted to visit India much before but considering Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'active schedule', waited for a mutually convenient time.
Ghani has already visited China and Pakistan. He said even before coming to India he had met Modi at SAARC conference and had been in touch with him.
"We share Afghanistan's pain over persisting terrorism and extremist violence that destroy lives and derail progress. We have a shared interest in the success of an Afghan-led and owned process, within the framework of the Afghan Constitution," PM Modi said in his opening remarks.
India has gifted Afghanistan three helicopters and is ready to sign a bilateral motor vehicle pact to allow vehicles from both sides to enter each other's countries.
