Sonia Gandhi calls Mamata Banerjee from hospital for talks on Monday

| | May 10, 2017, at 07:20 pm
New Delhi, May 10 (IBNS) : Ahead of the Presidential election, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has reportedly rang up West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to set up a meeting in Delhi on Monday, NDTV reported.

Gandhi made the call to the Trinamool Congress supremo  from hospital where she was admitted for food poisoning.

The Congress President's  call for a meeting is significant since she is leading the opposition move to put up a candidate of their choice against the BJP nominee.

Even though the BJP, with its number of MPs in Parliament, is certain to win such an election, the move initiated by the opposition is being seen as a prelude to forming a platform to take on the might of the ruling party in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi has already met political heavyweights like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (U) and  Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

Her son and Congress Vice President  Rahul Gandhi has held parleys  with CPI(M) General Secretary  Sitaram Yechury and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
