Sri Lankan navy apprehends 54 Indian fishermen
Rameswaram, Mar 22 (IBNS): The Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday evening arrested 54 Tamil Nadu fishermen and their ten boats, media reports said on Sunday.
This comes even after bilateral talks between Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen have been scheduled to be held in Chennai on March 24 and 25.
"Marine police sources at Mandapam said the fishermen had been apprehended while they were fishing between Katchatheevu and Neduntheevu in the Sri Lankan waters," The Times of India reported.
Among the fishermen arrested, 33 are from Rameswaram.
Recently when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sri Lanka, he had said that fishermen associations of both countries should meet and find a solution to the recurrent problems of Indian fishermen arrests, which the governments would then take forward.
