Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet crashes in Assam, pilots ejected safely

Guwahati, May 19 (IBNS) : A Sukhoi SU-30 MKI fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed after developing technical problem in Assam's Nagaon district on Tuesday, officials said.

Both pilots of the aircraft ejected safely.

A top official of IAF in Tezpur said the incident took place at Baralimari area near Laokhowa wildlife sanctuary in Nagaon district at around 12-30 pm.

"The aircraft had taken off from the Tezpur Salanibari Air Force Station on a routine mission. After take off, the aircraft had developed technical problem and the pilots had forced to abandon and ejected safely," the IAF official said.

"The aircraft had lost control with the radar at the air force station after take off and after crashed around 12-30 pm," the official said.

Both the pilots were safe.

On other hand, IAF has ordered a court inquiry to ascertain the cause of the incident.
