Supreme Court flays Centre on visa cancellation of 900 Nizamuddin Markaz visitors
New Delhi, Jun 29 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central government to find out whether any orders for cancellation of Visa have been issued by the state authorities for those, who attended a religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz, organised by Tablighi Jamaat in the month of March.
A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, and also comprising Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna, asked the Union of India (UOI), ''If the Visas of these foreigners (who attended the Tablighi meet) are cancelled, why they (are) still in India? You deport them. If not cancelled, we will throw out these petitions.''
As per the MHA notification, the decision has to be taken on a case-to-case basis by the state authorities.
''Will have to find out whether orders were passed,'' the Court observed.
Lawyer CU Singh, representing the petitioners, submitted before the apex court that the blacklisting order was a general note for 900 persons.
Advocate Rajat Nair, appearing for the Centre, said, ''We have not received a copy of the plea.
To this, Singh replied, "A copy was served to AOR BV Balram Das.''
The Apex Court was hearing around 50 petitions, challenging the blacklisting and cancellation of Visas filed by some foreigners.
The Top Court of the country further asked the Centre to find out and apprise as to whether there was just a general direction or individual orders sent to each one of them, informing about blacklisting and cancellation of Visa, and posted the matter for further hearing to July 2.
