New Delhi, Feb 8 (IBNS): In an unprecedented development, the the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued contempt notice to a sitting high court judge, for levelling allegations against former Judges of the Supreme Court and sitting judges of Madras High Court, reports said.

The apex court also ordered that  no judicial and administrative work be given to Justice CS Karnan, a judge in the Calcutta High Court and that he returns all judicial and administrative files he has in possession right now to the High Court's register.

The Supreme Court passed the orders after a seven-member bench heard a suo-moto contempt petition against Justice CS Karnan.

In a letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Justice Karnan  had made serious allegations of corruption against sitting judges of the Supreme Court and various High Courts.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi argued in the hearing against Justice Karnan  that the top court must set an example by taking action against him for his attacks on judiciary and writing letters to the PM and others on sitting and retired judges .
