Sushma Swaraj meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

Beijing, Apr 24 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday met Chinese President Xi Jinping here.

Swaraj is visiting China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted: "Conveying our desire to strengthen our bilateral relationship, EAM @SushmaSwaraj called on President of People's Republic of China Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of People in Beijing. #EAMatSCO."

The meeting took place between Sushma and Xi just days ahead of Indian PM Narendra Modi's visit to China.

Modi will visit China this month for an Informal Summit with the Asian nation's President Xi Jinping, officials said.

The Summit will be held in the Chinese city of Wuhan, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced on Sunday.

Modi will visit China on Apr 27-28.

Swaraj said : "Prime Minister of India @narendramodi will visit China on 27 & 28 April for an Informal Summit with President of China Xi Jinping in the city of Wuhan."

She said: "The informal Summit will be an important occasion for them to exchange views on bilateral and international matters from an over-arching and long-term perspective with the objective of enhancing mutual communication at the level of leaders."
