Suspected Naga militant injured in encounter with Assam Rifles, five nabbed in Manipur, Arunachal

Guwahati, Dec 21 (IBNS): One suspected militant of the NSCN-IM faction was injured in a gunfight with Assam Rifles troops in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday evening, officials said on Thursday.

According to the reports, the encounter took place in the area between Sibilong and Sinam village of Noney district.

A top official of Manipur police said that, the troops of Assam Rifles apprehended another militant from the encounter area.

The injured militant was rushed to nearest hospital and he is yet to be identified.

On the other hand, the troops of Assam Rifles’s Longding and Khonsa battalion apprehended four militants belonging to NSCN-U and NSCN-K factions in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday evening.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, based on intelligence input the Assam Rifles troops of Longding battalion launched the operation at Sonari area and apprehended three NSCN-U militants.

The nabbed militants were identified as Jaichok, Self Styled Lance Corporal Panyam Wangjen and Wangpan Wangsa.

Security personnel recovered two pistols with live ammunition, opium, extortion note, paper with extortion details, multiple mobile phones and other incriminating evidence in possession from them.

Post spot interrogation the militants admitted allegiance to NSCN-U and admitted that the trio under the Self Styled Private have been involved in extortion activities for last six months.

In a separate operation, the Khonsa battalion apprehended a militant of banned outfit NSCN-K from Khonsa town area.

The nabbed militant was identified as Kammo Kanglom and security forces recovered a pistol, live ammunition, opium and extortion note in possession from him.
