Tamil Nadu after Jayalalithaa : AIADMK leaders urge Sasikala to lead the party

Chennai, Dec 10 (IBNS) : Sasikala Natarajan, the closest aide of departed Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was on Saturday urged by senior leaders of the AIADMK to lead the organisation in what appeared to be the beginning of her becoming the all-powerful person in the ruling party, media reports said.

The reports said  leaders, including Mayor Saidai Duraisamy met Natarajan at Jayalalithaa’s residence in Poes Garden, Chennai and requested her to take the reins of the party as its General Secretary.

The AIADMK had said recently that  it will elect its new General Secretary, while party's  senior leader C Ponnaiyan said that the new chief will be elected unanimously.

“The party will soon elect a General Secretary who will guard the cadres who follow the footsteps of Amma with godly devotion and Tamil Nadu people.”

The post of General Secretary, the topmost designation in the AIADMK, was held by Jayalalithaa till her death on December five.

Jayalalithaa's death brought a big vacuum in the party making the senior leaders to go for brainstorming to fill in the void with someone who will  be accepted by all and the party will stand united.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Chief Minister O Panneerselvamchaired the first meeting of his cabinet at the state secretariat.

On Friday, Panneerselvam had met Sasikala.
