Tamil Nadu: One more COVID-19 death takes toll to 18, 76 test positive
Chennai/UNI: One more COVID positive patient died taking the toll to 18, even as 76 more positive cases were reported on Tuesday as Tamil Nadu's tally mounted to 1,596, with 178 more being discharged, taking the numbers to a whopping 635.
An official release here said a 60-year-old man died of coronavirus at the RGGH here following which the toll increased to 18, which is 1.12 per cent.
Meanwhile, the state saw a significant increase in corona cases, with 76 people, including 55 from Chennai alone, testing positive, as the corona tally in Tamil Nadu swelled from 1,520 to 1,596.
Other positive cases were reported from Tenkasi (five), Villupuram (four), Chengalpet and Thanjavur (3 each), Kallakurichi (2) and Kancheepuram, Tiruvarur, Namakkal and Coimbatore (one each).
A total of 178 people were discharged today--the highest on a single day that included 51 from three hospitals in Chennai, 48 in Karur,
31 in Coimbatore, 20 in Vellore, 13 in Chengalpet, eight in Madurai, six in Trichy and one in Tirunelveli--as those returned home after treatment went up to 635 which worked out to about 40 per cent.
It said a total of 53,045 samples, including 6,060 today, have been taken and sent for testing of which 1,596 have tested positive and 43,582 samples negative.
While testing of 1,990 samples are under process. 5,877 samples are repeat samples of same persons.
Meanwhile, Chennai continued to remain on the top of the chart with 358 cases, followed by Coimbatore (134), Tiruppur (109), Dindigul (76), Erode (70), Tirunelveli (62), Chengalpattu (56), Namakkal (51), Trichy (50), Thanjavur (49), Tiruvallur (48), Madurai (46), Nagapattinam (44), Theni (43), Karur (42), Villupuram (40), Ranipet (39) and Tenkasi (31).
Seventeen other districts reported less than 30 cases, taking the number of positive cases to 1,596 in 35 districts of the state.
Till date 87,159 passengers have completed 28 days follow-up.
As on date 1,09,972 passengers were put under home quarantine for 28 days and 145 asymptomatic passengers from highly affected countries were being quarantined in quarantine facilities near the airport and 1,917 COVID-19 suspected individuals were under hospital isolation.
A total of 22,254 patients were under active quarantine and 145 under Government Quarantine.
At present there were 29,074 beds in isolation wards and 3,371 ventilators.
