Tarun Gogoi meets Sonia to submit resignation

New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi to submit his resignation.
Taking full responsibility for the Congress' poor performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Gogoi offered to resign from his political chair.

However, media reports said the Congress leadership is unlikely to accept Gogoi's resignation.

The 78-year-old was elected Chief Minister of Assam in 2001 after he led the Indian National Congress to victory in the state elections.

He has since led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories in the state as Chief Minister.
