Tejpal bail: SC issues notice to Goa govt

| | Apr 21, 2014, at 08:10 pm
New Delhi, Apr 21 (IBNS) The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Goa government seeking the latter's response on why former Tehelka Editor-in-Chief and sexual assault accused Tarun Tejpal should not be granted bail.

The apex court gave four weeks' time to the Goa government to respond to its notice.

Tejpal moved the Supreme Court for bail after the Goa bench of Bombay High Court on Mar 14 rejected his bail petition.

Tejpal, who was arrested by the Goa Police on Nov 30, has been charged with sexual harassment and other sections of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013.

He allegedly sexually assaulted a woman journalist of his organization in an elevator of Grand Hyatt Goa during the Think festival of Tehelka where ironically the participants were debating on issues like rape.

The action of Tejpal is considered as rape under the new definition of the anti-rape law in India.
