Khammam: A 22-year-old BDS student allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room here on Sunday evening, police on Monday said.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Samudrala Manasa, a resident of Pochamma Maidan in Warangal.

She was in the final year of her BDS course at a private college and was residing in a hostel located opposite the BDS college.

Around 1700 hours on Sunday, she took an extreme step by pouring petrol on her body and setting herself on fire.

Her neighbouring roommates, who noticed the incident, immediately informed the police. Manasa succumbed to 80 percent burns, before police reached the spot.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation after transferring the body to the government hospital.

Further investigation is currently underway, added the police.
