Thanjavur temple tragedy: CM MK Stalin to meet victims
Thanjavur/UNI: Hours after three boys and eight adults were killed in Tamil Nadu due to electrocution, Chief Minister MK Stalin is expected to visit kin of the deceased and 14 injured in a freak temple chariot procession incident near Thanjavur early Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly that resumed session on Wednesday passed an 'attention resolution' in the House on behalf of all the parties after the post midnight tragedy.
As many as 11 people, including three children, died in a high-voltage electrocution mishap during a religious procession at Kalimedu area near Thanjavur city of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Inquiries reveal that the victims were participating in a cart procession organised in memory of Tamil Saivaite saint Thirunavukkarasar, by a local prayer club formed and run by the villagers for more than nine decades, when the mishap took place, reports The Hindu.
The 25 to 30 feet electrical serial bulb decoration on the cart unexpectedly came into contact with the high voltage line passing through the village, at around 2-45 a.m, the newspaper reported.
The idol was damaged as the cart went up in flames after the cart came in contact with the high voltage line.
The mishap left 15 others injured.
