Kolkata/IBNS: The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which is aiming to make inroads in Goa, on Saturday appointed Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra as its state unit in-charge with an immediate effect.

"Our Hon’ble Chairperson @MamataOfficial is pleased to appoint Smt. @MahuaMoitra as the State in-charge of the @AITC4Goa unit, with immediate effect," the party has tweeted.

Reacting to her appointment, Moitra tweeted, "Looking forward to doing my very best. Thank you for the opportunity @MamataOfficial."

After wresting power in West Bengal for the third consecutive term in 2021, the TMC has activated its organisation in a few small states including Goa, where Banerjee's outfit is aiming to contest the upcoming assembly polls next year.

Former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, a number of Congress leaders, tennis icon Leander Paes, actress Nafisa Ali have recently joined the TMC in Goa, in a bid to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
