TMC, BJP MPs clash, Speaker urges them not to turn the Lower House into Bengal legislature
New Delhi, Jul 3 (UNI) Members from West Bengal belonging to the BJP and state's ruling party Trinamool Congress clashed intensely and repeatedly in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday forcing the chair to snub them more than once.
Amid repeated raucous scenes, Speaker Om Birla urged the members from both sides not to indulge in slogan shouting and blame game in the House and at one point of time went on to remark: "Isey Bangal Vidhan Sabha mat banao (Please do not make Lok Sabha, the Bengal assembly)".
The issues concerning law and order situation in West Bengal figured prominently more than once as members indulged in exchange of heated words and slogan shouting against each other.
At the start of the Zero Hour itself, Trinamool Congress floor leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay maintained that BJP member Locket Chatterjee made personal attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the House on Tuesday and insisted that such remarks should be 'expunged'.
"Ms Banerjee is not a member of the House and hence the remarks should be expunged....How will the ruling side react if there is an allegation and such remarks against Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) in the West Bengal assembly," he said.
Bandyopadhyay's remarks were fiercely countered by BJP members Saumitra Khan, Arjun Singh and S S Ahluwalia. Trinamool members including Kalyan Banerjee, Shishir Adhikari and Aparupa Poddar too were up on their feet making anti-BJP remarks.
Later West Bengal related matters figured twice as BJP members Arjun Singh and Locket Chatterjee spoke on the situations in the Mamata Banerjee-ruled state.
Amid strong objections from Trinamool members, Hooghly MP Ms Chatterjee said a 'terror like situation' prevails in the state.
Speaker Birla ruled that anything said objectionable will not go on record.
"The slogan Jai Shri Ram means compassion and unity, it also means a symbol of Honesty," she said even as Trinamool Congress MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Saugat Roy and other colleagues were up on their feet and raised anti-BJP slogans.
Chatterjee also said Jai Shri Ram also symbolises Good Governance wherein "everyone will be one and rise above all differences".
Another BJP MP from West Bengal Arjun Singh raised the issue of smuggling and cross border infiltration and alleged that when BSF workers take actions - often they too are implicated in false cases.
"I urge for immediate actions to stop inflow of fake currencies and drugs from across the border
in Bangladesh," said Singh, onetime Trinamool leader and who joined BJP just on the eve of polls.
