A top Indian diplomat recently met Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul when they discussed several issues, including New Delhi's humanitarian assistance to the war-ravaged nation.

The Indian side was led by Joint Secretary (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran) of the External Affairs Ministry JP Singh

The delegation consisted of a woman diplomat from the division, Deepti Jharwal, as well, reported India Today.

Following the meeting, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Afghan Foreign Affairs claimed India is interested in expanding political and economic cooperation with Afghanistan and enhancing trade via Chabahar port.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson of the Afghan ministry, posted on X: "Today, the MEA Joint Secretary of the Republic of India for Af-Ir-Pak, Mr. J.P. Singh called on IEA-Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi."

"The meeting focused on in-depth discussions on bilateral Afg-India relations, economic and transit matters," he said.

He said during the meeting Muttaqi urged India’s Joint Secretary to facilitate the visa issuance process for Afghan businessmen, patients and students.

The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021 after the foreign forces left the country.
