Tribal man killed by villagers in suspected witch-hunting case in Assam’s Baksa district

Guwahati/IBNS: In a gruesome incident, a 50-year-old tribal man was beaten to death by a group of villagers in a suspected case of witch-hunting in Assam’s Baksa district.

The incident happened at Bogoribari village under Kumarikata police outpost near Tamulpur on Monday.

The victim was identified as 50-year-old Biren Boro of Bogoribari village.

According to the police, the villagers on Monday had held a meeting and they had branded the man as witch and a group of villagers had thrashed the man brutally.

After receiving the information when a police team had reached the spot, some villagers had also attacked the police team.

Later, the victim was admitted at a government-run hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and detained five persons for their alleged involvement in the incident.
