Trucks with Rs. 570 crore stopped in poll-bound Tamil Nadu

| | May 14, 2016, at 06:40 pm
Chennai, May 14 (IBNS) Election Commission authorities on Saturday stopped three trucks, purportedly carrying Rs 570 crore cash in poll-bound Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district, reports said.

Though the trucks have not been opened yet, the drivers claim that the cash belongs to the  State Bank of India and is being transported to Vijayawada.

The Election Commission has formed an investigating committee to look into the matter.

Reports quoted officials as saying that the vehicles will be released if documents are found to be genuine. However, the vehicle numbers did not match the documents, leading to a suspicion.

Tamil Nadu will go to polls in a single phase on May 16.
