Two boys drown in rainwater-filled pit in Thane

Thane, Jul 8 (UNI) Two boys died due to drowning after they accidentally fell into a pit filled with rainwater while playing near their house at Titwala of the district on Monday.

The duo was playing near the Shelar Chawl at Yadav Nagar of Manda late in the afternoon at about 1630 hours when the incident occurred, the district authorities said.

Their bodies were later fished out by the local firemen.

The boys were identified as Piyush Pathak and Mayank Sharma (both aged 12).

While Phatak was from Walkeshwar, Sharma was a local from Nandap Road, the authorities added.

In another incident, a number of slums in Turbhe of Navi Mumbai were washed away due to heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

However, there was no loss of life, a report stated.
