Two Indian students stabbed to death in Ukraine

New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS) Two Indian students were on Monday stabbed to death while one other sustained injuries in Ukraine by three locals on Monday.

The incident occurred at a medical college in Ukraine.

Those killed in the attack are  Pranav Shaindilya and Ankur Singh, respectively third year and fourth year students at the Uzhgorod medical college. The inured has been identified as  Indrajeet Chauhan.

The External Affairs Ministry said the Indian embassy in Kiev is taking up the matter related to safety of Indian students strongly with Ukraine.

"In an unfortunate event, three Indian students in Uzhgorod Medical College (Ukraine) were stabbed by three Ukrainian nationals at around 3 AM in the morning of Sunday, April 10," said External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

Based on the statement of Chauhan, who is recuperating, the  Ukraine Police has apprehended the accused.

The MEA also said the Indian embassy is ascertaining facts from police, university and local contacts. They have spoken to the families of the deceased.

"The Embassy has spoken to the families of the two deceased students. All necessary actions are being taken to complete the formalities for sending the two bodies to India. The Embassy is also taking up the matter related to safety of Indian students strongly with the Foreign Office of Ukraine,"  Swarup said.
