Eluru/UNI: Two remand prisoners, who had tested positive for Coronavirus, escaped from Covid Care Centre (CCC) at Vatluru here on Saturday.

District Jailer Venugopal Reddy said that the swab samples of 74 prisoners, who were lodged in district prison, were tested on Jul 21 and of which 13 were diagnosed positive for Coronavirus.

The 13 remand prisoners were shifted to the Covid Care Centre for treatment.

However, two prisoners, among them, have escaped from the CCC in the wee hours of today.

The two escaped remand prisoners were involved in several burglaries and had been in the prison for the last one year.

They were residents of Jangareddygudem and Bhimavaram in West Godavari district.

The police launched a search operation to nab the fugitives. After the remand prisoners gave a slip, security was tightened at the Covid Care Centre.

Superintendent of Police K Narayana Naik visited CCC from where the two prisoners escaped.

Police formed special teams to nab the escaped prisoners.
