Two ULFA(I) militants shot dead in Assam encounter

Guwahati, Aug 25 (IBNS) : Two hardcore militants of United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam's Goalpara district along Meghalaya border on Monday, police said.

According to reports, suspected militants had abducted a youth of Krishnai named Prakashan Kashyap and police had launched operation to
trace the abducted youth.

''Based on intelligence input, a joint team of police and army had launched operation at Beldangpara area under Krishnai police station.When security personnel reached the remote area, the militants had started firing and bullets were exchanged and two militants killed on spot,'' Goalpara district SP Nitul Gogoi said.

During the gun battle, a police personnel named J Stone Momin was injured and he was admitted at Guwahati Medical College hospital.

Security forces had safely recovered the youth from abducter's clutch.

The slain militants have not been identified so far.

Security forces recovered two pistols, ammunition in possession of slain militants.
