New Delhi Mar 25(IBNS) : The Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have aborted an assassination plot with the arrest of a man believed to be the aide of underworld don Ejaz Lakdawala.

NDTV quoted police as saying that Mohammad Yusuf, the arrested person, was in the process of recruiting shooters from neighbouring Punjab, purportedly for gang operations and carrying out  assassinations in Delhi and Mumbai.

Ejaz Lakdawala is a friend-turned-foe of the fugitive mafia don Dawood Ibrahim.

It is said he escaped an attack by Dawood's gang members in May, 2003 when he was shot at in a market place of Bangkok..

A year later Lakdawala, who had a red corner notice issued against him, was arrested by Canadian police in Ottawa
