UPSC row: Protests on, govt yet to take decision
New Delhi, Aug 2 (IBNS): Even as the Hindi-speaking Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants are protesting against the emphasis on English in the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT), the government is yet to take a resolution in the matter.
To deliberate on the matter, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Saturday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the UPSC row.
Senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders Ram Madhav and Jagat Prakash Nadda were also present at the meeting.
Jitendra Singh told reporters that the "decision will be taken at the appropriate time."
"The Bharatiya Janata Party is very much concerned about the future of the students. It will take some time to resolve UPSC row. The Centre is also trying to resolve crisis as soon as possible," Nadda said.
The final decision on the issue will be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, reports said.
Earlier, in the days, the protesters took their stir to the doorstep of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh but they were quickly cleared by the police.
Members of the Congress affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) protested outside the residence of Rajnath Singh's residence.
The police also detained some protesters and took them to Parliament Street Police Station.
In a setback for the protesting Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants, the Arvind Verma committee has submitted its report on the row and has recommended that no change should be made in the Civil Service Aptitude Test, reports said.
CNN-IBN quoting sources reported: "The committee has recommended that the quality of English to Hindi translations in CSAT paper should be improved. There are 20 marks of English comprehension which are of class 10th level and that future civil servants are expected to have that level of knowledge."
Earlier, the upper house of Parliament had to be adjourned twice on Friday after the Opposition created uproar over the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam row.
Lawmakers from Congress, Samajwadi Party and Janata Dal-United raised the issue in Rajya Sabha with Sharad Yadav of JD-U saying the government has not done anything despite assurances to resolve it.
Lawmakers had earlier also created a ruckus over the issue after hundreds of UPSC aspirants resorted to violent protest in Delhi over the Civil Services Aptitude Test for UPSC exams demanding its withdrawal since they claimed it to be favouring those who studied in English.
The aspirants had resorted to arson targetting public transport and police vans besides stone pelting. They had blocked the Outer Ring Road near Wazirabad too earlier.
The aspirants demanded scrapping of C-SAT (Aptitude Test) for the UPSC exam besides inclusion of Hindi as language.
The Centre earlier had said it has formed a three- Member Committee to look into the controversy Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC as aspirants protest the changes made in the examination pattern.
The prelims entrance exam is scheduled to take place on Aug 24.
