US's DEA agents arrive in Kolkata to quiz arrested Chinese drug peddlers

Kolkata, July 9 (IBNS): Three agents of United States federal law enforcement agency, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), on Monday reached Kolkata to interrogate five Chinese nationals who were arrested in the city last month for carrying contraband narcotics with a market value of approximately 39 crore rupees, sources said.

According to reports, two sleuths and a Chinese-English interpreter from the DEA, which is tasked with combating drug smuggling and use within the US, will grill the five suspected Chinese drug peddlers at West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarter at Bhabani Bhavan in Kolkata's Alipore area on Tuesday.

Sources in the state CID said that the US enforcement agency will interrogate these five men to find if China's Guangdong based drug peddling racket had any link with the United States.

Earlier on June 29 midnight, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel had detained five residents of China's Guangdong province from Kolkata Railway Station area at Chitpur and seized 197 kg narcotics, including methamphetamine and amphetamine drugs, from their possessions.

After taking over probe into the international drug smuggling racket, CID investigators last week discovered a charcoal factory at Naoda in Murshidabad district where a drug processing unit was reportedly being run.

These five Chinese nationals are in CID custody till July 13.
