An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an 80-year-old man in Marka area of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Tuesday.

Circle Officer (CO) Baberu Rakesh Kumar Singh said that the incident took place late on Monday evening when the victim had gone to get milk from a dairy.

"Finding the girl alone, dairy owner Krishna Bihari Tripathi sexually assaulted her," he said.

He said that by the time the neighbours could reach the spot after hearing the cries of the girl, the accused had fled from the spot.

"A case was lodged, and the victim was sent for medical examination. The matter is being investigated, and legal action will be taken against the accused on the basis of facts," he said.
