Uttar Pradesh: Eight killed in explosion at illegal fireworks factory

Bhadohi, Feb 23 (UNI) At least eight people were killed in an explosion that occurred in an illegally-operated fireworks factory in the Chairi police station area in this district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

More people are said to be trapped under the debris.

According to police sources, work related to making carpets used to be carried out in a house built in Rotahan area and an illegal fireworks factory was also being operated under the guise of making carpets.

A powerful explosion took place in the fireworks factory in the morning. The house entirely collapsed in the explosion while its debris scattered on the Bhadohi-Varanasi road.

A huge police force reached the spot after the explosion and the debris is being removed from the road with the help of a JCB.

Efforts to identify the deceased are underway.

Further probe is on.
