A man killed his wife by slitting her throat and later surrendered before the police in Dargah area of Bahraich district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Sunday.

Police sources told UNI that Asif lived along with his wife Reshma (32) and two children in Salarganj locality.

"On Saturday Arif reached home past midnight while his wife and children were sleeping and asked his son and daughter to go out," they said.

Police sources told UNI that as the children left the room Asif started beating Reshma with the handle of a faucet.

"When Reshma fell unconscious Arif slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon and killed her," they said.

Police sources said that Arif reached Dargah police station on Sunday morning and confessed his crime after which he was taken into custody.

Station House Officer (SHO) Harendra Mishra said that Arif killed his wife as he suspected that she was talking with some person over phone.

"A case has been lodged on the complaint of the deceased's mother and the matter is being investigated," he said.
