Uttar Pradesh: Two die, pregnant woman hurt after being hit by truck

Banda: A woman and a girl were killed and a pregnant woman was injured after being mowed down by a truck in Kotwali Nagar area of Banda district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Sunday.

Circle Officer (City) Gavendra Pal Gauatm said that the incident took place near Mawai village around 2: 30 am on Saturday night when a DCM truck hit another truck parked along the roadside.

"The truck in turn mowed down three people sleeping in the hut on the roadside," he said.

He said that two women and a girl were injured in the incident.

"The injured were taken to the district hospital where doctors declared Jyoti (10) and Prema (50) dead. A pregnant woman, Umakanti is being treated at the hospital," he said.

The CO said that the truck has been impounded and efforts were being made to nab its driver, who is absconding after the incident.

"A case will be lodged once a complaint is received from the family members," he said.
