Dehradun/IBNS: The bodies of 9 people, who died in the trek tragedy in Uttarakhand, were flown to Bengaluru on Friday, media reports said.

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda personally handed over the dead bodies to the families of the deceased.

"All 9 bodies have arrived and handed over to respective families for final rites. With the 13 surviving persons and 9 deceased returning to Bengaluru all 22 are accounted for.

"That brings our rescue and recover operation to some finality. My condolences to families who have lost near and dear ones," Gowda posted on X.

The dead bodies were planned to be brought to Bengaluru on Thursday.

However, the delays in formalities prompted another day.

22 trekkers from Bengaluru got stranded in the Garhwal mountain range of Uttarakhand due to bad weather.

The Karnataka government in collaboration with its Uttarakhand counterpart launched a search and rescue operation.

13 trekkers, who have survived, reached Bengaluru on Thursday evening.
