Varanasi, Apr 3 (UNI): A Banaras Hindu University (BHU) student, who was shot on campus on Tuesday, has succumbed to his injuries. Four students have been detained.

Police said here on Wednesday the detained students were being interrogated.

Gaurav Singh, pursuing Master of Computer Applications (MCA) in the university, was standing outside his hostel on Tuesday evening and talking to his friends when assailants came on a motorcycle and opened fire at him. The assailants immediately fled the spot, said police.

Gaurav sustained bullet injuries in his stomach and was rushed to the trauma centre of the BHU's Institute of Medical Sciences. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police sources said it seems that it is a case of personal enmity and the detention was made after reviewing the CCTV footage.
Gaurav's father Rakesh Singh is an employee of the BHU.
