Vice-chancellor beaten up for seeking help for Kashmir flood victims

Ujjain, Sep 16 (IBNS): The vice-chancellor of a university in Ujjain was allegedly attacked by a section of radical fundamentalist groups for asking students to help the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, reports said.

The incident took place on Monday when a section of angry Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal workers attacked vice-chancellor of Vikram University Jawahar Lal Kaul who had appealed to local landlords to waive rent for Kashmiri students.

The irate mob questioned Kaul’s stand as why he did not issue similar statements when floods had ravaged parts of Uttarakhand and Gujarat. The VC complained of chest pain and was admitted to a hospital, police said.

The police have already filed a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified workers of VHP and Bajrang Dal. They might use the CCTV footage of the VC’s office to identify and take action against those responsible for the incident, sources said.
