WB CID busts sex racket at municipality guest house near Kolkata, 4 held
Kolkata, July 12 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday busted a sex racket at Konnagar area in Kolkata's neighbouring Hooghly district and rescued five minor girls from the location, reports said.
According to reports, a 10-member CID team carried out raid at a guest house owned by local municipality and arrested four persons, including a woman, for running the sex racket.
"Based on specific inputs that a commercial sexual exploitation involving minor girls was being carried out at a hotel near Konnagar railway station, we raided Bishramika Guest House at Indira Gandhi Road and rescued four minor girls, who had been forcibly involved in the racket, from the premise," a state CID official told IBNS.
"Besides recovering several condoms, porn DVDs, 10 mobile phones and as many as 10 thousand rupees cash, we arrested four persons, including a male pimp, a female pimp and two managers of the guest house," the official said.
The arrested have been identified as Avinash Kanu, Bibekananda Bera, Sukh Dev Das and Kalpana Chakraborty.
Chairman of Trinamool Congress (TMC) ruled Konnagar Municipality, Bappaditya Chatterjee, claimed that the guest house was operated by a local person on lease and they did not have any idea about the sex racket.
"Bishramika Guest House is owned by Konnagar Municipaltiy, but it has been given to one Shyamal Mondal on a lease," Bappaditya Chatterjee told IBNS.
"After knowing about the sex racket, we have dismissed the lease on Thursday and a legal action will be taken against Shyamal Mondal," Chatterjee added.
CID investigators, however, have started a search operation to catch guest house's operator Shyamal Mondal who goes absconding following the raid.
