We are watching the situation: Lalu on Nitish's resignation
Patna, May 18 (IBNS): Amid media speculations of a JD(U)-RJD tie up after Nitish Kumar resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said he is watching the situation.
"I did not ask him to resign. The people have rejected him. We are watching the situation," Lalu Prasad told reporters while refusing to comment on any alliance.
Meanwhile, legislators of Janata Dal (United), the ruling party of Bihar, will meet on Sunday to decide on the new leader for the party.
JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said that a decision on the same will be taken at the meeting scheduled for 4 pm.
"The decision will be taken at 4 pm. I have been saying since yesterday that we as a party are different. Once someone resigns in our party, he doesn't come back," Yadav told reporters.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned on Saturday following a crushing defeat of his Janata Dal-United at the hands of ally-turned-foe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha elections.
The ruling JD(U) managed to win just two of the 40 seats in Bihar while the BJP and its allies swept away 31 seats, prompting Kumar to resign.
Kumar however denied recommending the dissolution of the state assembly, as some reports had said earlier, and asserted that a new government could be made with the same assembly.
