West Bengal BJP calls for 12-hour Barrackpore bandh after party worker killed

| @indiablooms | Oct 05, 2020, at 04:13 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a 12-hour bandh at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district on Monday after one of its workers was killed last evening.

BJP worker Manish Shukla was shot in Titagarh on Sunday evening. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The saffron party has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of having a role in the murder.

BJP's state president Dilip Ghosh trained his guns at the TMC tweeting, "The horrific murder of BJP’s youth leader, lawyer and former councillor Manish Shukla is reprehensible. This is an example of the bloody politics of Paschim Banga under TMC. Can any justice be expected from this state Government?"

Criticising the government over the alleged deterioration of law and order situation in the state, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted, "Alarming nosediving law and order scenario.  Targeted political killings in spite of alert by Constitutional Head. Neither ACS Home nor DGP of West Bengal Police responded. To CM at 10.47 PM “Would like to speak to you urgently !” Only silence that speaks volumes."

The West Bengal Police has put up a tweet stating it is investigating all possible reasons including personal enmity behind the murder and asked people not to jump into any conclusion.

It tweeted, "A person was shot dead last evening in Titagarh area of Barrackpore. Police is investigating the crime and looking into all possible reasons including personal enmity because the victim was accused in some cases of murder and attempt of murder.."

"Please do not jump on conclusion without proper investigation. Irresponsible comments on social media tantamount to interference in the investigation. Please refrain from this."
