West Bengal: BJP central delegation on way to violence-hit Basirhat detained

Kolkata, Jul 8 (IBNS): A delegation of BJP MPs, who were on their way to visit riot-affected areas in Basirhat sub-division, was stopped by police at Birati's Michael Nagar area on Saturday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, a three-member team of BJP MPs from Delhi, consisting of Om Prakash Mathur, Satyapal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, tried to visit the violence-hit areas, where CrPC section 144 has been imposed.

They were barred by the police from entering North 24 Parganas district. After they tried to move towards the scene disobeying police orders, the three BJP MPs were arrested.

Till the latest update came in, they have been taken to taken to a local police station near Kolkata airport.

Meanwhile, protesting the Basirhat issue, state BJP's rally towards city's downtown Esplanade area has been started from Central Avenue.
