West Bengal election will be declared within 7-8 days: Mamata Banerjee

Alipurduar/Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the high octane state poll will be declared by the Election Commission within 7-8 days.

Speaking on the government's Swasthya Sathi card at a rally in Alipurduar, Banerjee, who heads the ruling Trinamool Congress, said, "...The election will be declared within 7-8 days. Not much time is left..."

The election, which was held in April-May five years ago, is likely to be concluded by the end of April this year as the union government on Tuesday announced the central board examinations for classes 10 and 12 will begin on May 4.

Facing a massive exodus of leaders from her party, Banerjee on Wednesday sent a message to her party workers that the list of candidates will only be decided by the state level.

"The district levels can recommend the candidates' names but the final list will be decided by the state level. No lobby can be done in our party," she said.

Over the last weekend, several key Trinamool leaders including former West Bengal Forest Minister Rajib Banerjee joined the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), following the footsteps of turncoats like Suvendu Adhikari, Mukul Roy, Arjun Singh.
