West Bengal girl receives 'Momo Suicide Game' invitation, police begin probe

Kobita Roy, a first year student of Jalpaiguri P.D. Women's College, claimed that she had posted a status on Whatsapp, "I will die", following a spat with her mother on Monday night and few minutes later she received the Momo Game invitation from an anonymous number.

"Nearly three minutes after posting the status, I received a message from an anonymous and strange number, +1(251)999-5451, at 9:41 pm. on Monday where the sender wrote- 'Hi I Am Momo'," Kobita Roy told IBNS.

"When I asked 'Who', the anonymous sender replied, 'It's my name, Shall V Play A game?' and immediately I blocked the number and informed my family members," the teenager student added.

Later on Tuesday, the girl lodged a complaint at Kotwali Police Station.

Local police, however, have initiated an investigation into the case.

"We have received such a complaint from a college student and our cyber cell is probing the matter," Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Kotwali Police Station, Biseshwar Sarkar, told IBNS.

Days ago, family members of a 15-year-old girl from Ajmer district of Rajasthan blamed 'Momo Suicide Game' for forcing her to commit suicide.

The 10th standard girl slit her wrist and then committed suicide by hanging from her room's ceiling.

"The girl was found hanging in July and our officials initially suspected that the teenager had committed suicide for scoring poor marks in exam," Ajmer SP Rajesh Singh told IBNS.

"As her family members claimed that she was playing Momo Challenge Game before committing suicide, we have sent her computer and smartphone for forensic tests to make sure if Momo game was involved in the case," Singh added.   
 
Remembering the scary memories of Blue Whale Game, similar blackmailing based Momo Suicide Game has made its headway in several countries, including Argentina, Mexico, France, Germany and few states of the USA, and already claimed few lives.
