West Bengal mulling over reopening of schools, colleges shut due to COVID-19
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal is mulling over the reopening of all educational institutions, which were shut due to COVID-19 second wave, after the vacation for Bengali festival Durga Puja ends, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday.
"We will try to reopen schools and colleges after the Puja vacation and conduct classes every alternate day," said Banerjee.
She made the announcement in a press conference after holding a meeting with the Global Advisory Committee, headed by Nobel laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, on a possible third wave of coronavirus.
The Durga Puja vacation usually remains for around a month from October to November.
In the same press conference, Banerjee once again requested the central government to supply enough anti-COVID-19 vaccines to the state.
"Other states are getting more vaccines. I have no complaints. I want all states to get vaccines. But West Bengal should also get its due as per its population," said the Chief Minister at her office Nabanna this evening.
West Bengal, which is located in the eastern part of India, Wednesday reported 826 new infections while the toll went up by 10.
