West Bengal: TMC activists attack BJP chief J.P. Nadda's convoy, multiple vehicles vandalized

According to reports, BJP chief J.P. Nadda along with other senior leaders was going to join a party meeting in South 24 Pargana's Diamond Harbour when their convoy was attacked by TMC supporters in the presence of state police at Sirakol More area.

TMC leader-activists, who pelted stones at the convoy, also vandalized BJP supporters' motorcycles and chased media personnel, who were trying to cover the skirmish.

Multiple vehicles in the convoy, including the SUVs of Dilip Ghosh, Kailash Vijayvargya, Mukul Roy and Anupam Hazra, were seriously damaged while few media cars also faced the attack.

Earlier in the morning, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about his concern over the security arrangements for Nadda in West Bengal following which the Centre had sought a report from the state government.

Despite the incident, Nadda and other leaders joined the political event at Diamond Harbour and the party chief slammed the Mamata government.

"During my journey to Diamond Harbour, I witnessed the law and order situation of the state," Nadda said.

Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted, "Concerned at alarming reports of anarchy and lawlessness indicating ruling party harmads on a rampage at BJP President Convoy and political police in support."

"This happening in spite of my alerts to CS & DGP early morning indicated the collapse of law & order," Dhankhar wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, senior TMC leader and Bengal minister Subrata Mukherjee has accused the BJP of provoking TMC supporters who were staging demonstration over the farm laws at Sirakol.

"Will request our activists not to be persuaded as BJP is conspiring to trigger violence in West Bengal," Subrata Mukherjee said.

"There have been provocations from the BJP but if there is any involvement of our party in the incident, we will investigate and take action," Subrata Mukherjee said.

"Our party workers should also stay away from such incidents," Mukherjee added.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Police claimed that "nothing happened to J.P. Nadda's convoy and it had reached Diamond Harbour safely".

"Shri JP Nadda, National President, BJP reached safely at the venue, Diamond Harbour, South 24 Pgs. Nothing happened to his convoy. Few bystanders at Debipur, Falta PS, Diamond Harbour PD, sporadically and suddenly threw stones towards vehicles trailing long behind his convoy," state police tweeted.

Everyone is safe and the situation is peaceful. The matter is being investigated to find out actual happenings," the tweet read.
