West Bengal: TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee equates Union FM Nirmala Sitharaman to a 'venomous snake', triggers controversy

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has triggered a controversy by equating Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to a 'venomous snake' (Kal Nagini).

He made the comment during a public meeting in Bankura on Saturday.

Criticizing FM Nirmala Sitharaman over her handling of the country's economy, TMC MP for Serampore constituency in Hooghly district, Kalyan Banerjee, called her the 'worst finance minister in the world'.

While addressing a party gathering, Kalyan Banerjee said, "The way people die due to the biting of 'Kal Nagini' (venomous snake), the same way, people of our country are losing their lives due to Nirmala Sitharaman."

"She (Sitharaman) should be ashamed of devastating India's economy and should resign from her chair immediately," Banerjee said.

"Sitharaman is the worst finance minister in the world and India never witnessed such a bad finance minister before," he added.

Reacting to Banerjee's controversial remarks, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh tweeted, "The Trinamool leaders have lost their mental stability. The entire Party is tattered because of corruption, violence and internal rift. Mamata Banerjee has lost control over both her Party and the Government."

"Everyday internal strife within the Party is resulting in political murders. Even senior leaders, like Kalyan Banerjee, are giving contradictory statements that reveal the lack of their mental clarity too. Common people are not half-witted, they are really enjoying the circus show," Ghosh wrote on Twitter.
