West Bengal to get 25 new cyber police stations

Kolkata, Feb 26 (UNI) In view of the rising cyber crimes, the West Bengal government has decided to set up 25 new cyber police stations across the state.

With this new development citizens will have access to cyber police stations in their area. A total of 24 such police stations will be set up covering all the 24 districts and one would be set up at the CID office.

The proposed cyber crime reporting and investigation centres are a major step after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the attempts to create panic and fear through social media.

The step is expected to bring relief to people beleaguered by cyber crimes and increase the number of reportings of such incidents. Internet crimes are expected to get greater attention and quick redressal apart of increased awareness about such crimes.

In order to ensure efficiency cyber police, the state home department has given its nod for recruitment

of software specialists. As many as 249 new posts will be generated in various categories, apart from the 24 software consultants, who will provide their specialised services.

The team of specialists will be responsible for monitoring various social media platforms so that the cyber police can initiate steps whenever necessary.
