A seven-year-old TEDx talk by Sharma has resurfaced on social media, where he speaks about life philosophy and his motivation to join the civil services.

In the video, he quotes a Sanskrit line from Rigveda and says, “We should never block noble thoughts, regardless of its source—it may come from a colleague, a subordinate, or a senior. This should be the basic philosophy. Openness must be maintained, because much in life remains unknown to us.”

He adds, “I chose the civil services because our systems need reform. Having understood what injustice feels like, I strive to ensure justice.”

Crackdown in TMC Stronghold

Ahead of the second and final phase of polling on April 29, Sharma launched a crackdown in South 24 Parganas to ensure free and fair elections in the politically sensitive region.

Acting on allegations of voter intimidation, Sharma visited the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Jahangir Khan from Falta.

The candidate was not present at the time, but Sharma and his team traced the residence despite initial reluctance from locals and regional police.

Warning Over Intimidation

Taken aback by the Y-category security cover provided to Khan, Sharma issued a stern warning to his family members.

“If we continue to receive reports of his associates intimidating voters, we will take appropriate action. He should not regret his actions later,” Sharma is heard saying in a viral video.

Sharma’s actions triggered a sharp political exchange between the BJP and the TMC.

BJP leaders praised his intervention, framing it as a strong message against alleged voter intimidation.

At the same time, the Trinamool Congress launched a counterattack. Party leaders questioned his conduct and intent, turning the focus onto his actions and public image.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticised Sharma in a social media post, sharing a video purportedly showing him in a non-official setting. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

Her remarks targeted his conduct and attempted to challenge the narrative around his tough policing image.

The political row widened further when Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav also weighed in, questioning the broader implications of the controversy and calling for action.

Meanwhile, Tollywood actress Subhashree Ganguly, the wife of film director-turned-TMC MLA Raj Chakraborty, criticised the appointment of Ajay Pal Sharma as a special police observer, calling his presence "unwanted" while questioning his strict tactics, often described as a "'Singham' style".

The actress called Mamata Banerjee 'Mahishasurmardini' while voting at the Urbana booth on Wednesday.

Actress Subhashree Ganguly cast her vote with her husband, TMC candidate Raj Chakraborty.

Comparing Maa Durga with the Trinamool supremo, Subhashree said, "Every time many Mahishasuras come to fight with Maa Durga, but Maa Durga wins. It will be the same this time, too."

After that, when she was asked about the 'Singham' cop, the actress said, "Not being the wife of a leader, but as a general woman, I want to say that 'Singham' or the lion is under the feet of Maa Durga. The one who is Maa Durga here will rule."

Although not naming anyone, Subhashree Ganguly hinted that 'Singham' (Ajay Pal Sharma) will be at Mamata's feet.
