Yogi to visit Taj Mahal today

| @indiablooms | Oct 26, 2017, at 04:19 pm
Agra, Oct 26 (IBNS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is visiting the Taj Mahal on Thursday amid recent controversy surrounding the mausoleum.

A number of right win politicians have claimed that the Shah Jahan-built Taj Mahal is actually a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, inviting criticism from the opposition.

The newly formed Uttar Pradesh government too faced a backlash for leaving out the monument from its budget heritage plan.

The recent controversy was flagged off by BJP lawmaker Sangeet Som, who called the 17th century monument a 'blot on Indian culture'.

He also accused the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan of trying to wipe out the Hindu population from the country.

"The creator of the Taj Mahal (Shah Jahan) imprisoned his father. He wanted to wipe out all Hindus from India," he said.

Later, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar said that the monument was actually named Tejo Mahal and was later converted into a mausoleum by Shah Jahan.

However, he added that he wouldn't want a beautiful monument such as this to be demolished.

Taj Mahal is one of the most visited places in India and presently one among the seven wonders of the world.
