The Indian Story (TIS), which is an initiative to showcase the best of India's art and culture at the Swabhumi heritage park in Kolkata, finally kicked off on the October 29, 2015 evening with a specially curated show “The Calico Chapterâ€, followed by the beautiful Weaves Show by Sanjay Garg of Raw Mango. Then the preview to the exposition opened up to a few select audiences, for them to explore and shop till midnight. Swabhumi as the hosting site will be housing this unique design experience with over 80 participants from all across the country. The show has been put together by industrialist Harsh Neotia's wife Madhu Neotia, restaurateur and food writer Abhilasha Sethia, scenographer Swarup Dutta and designer Nil. As the five-day festivity of Durga Puja almost came to an end on Thursday (Oct 22, 2015), with the day combining both Maha Nabami and Vijaya Dasami this time, many idols were immersed in the river Ganges and other water bodies. Ahead of the immersion, women, especially married women, smeared each other with sindoor. The Kolkata Police on Oct 18, 2015 (Mahapanchami day) evening closed people's access into the Deshapriya Park puja pandal, where World's largest 88.5 feet Durga idol has been installed, for overcrowding. There was a near stampede and the entire traffic of south Kolkata was thrown haywire. Many had come from far off places to see the tallest Durga but went back disappointed. However, many are still seen stealing a glance through the park's enclosure. Kolkatans offer 'Anjali' on Maha Ashtami

The festivity fever reached peak on Wednesday (Oct 21, 2015) as the day of Mahaashtami brought along happiness and different hues of aspiration with people flocking to the nearby pandals to offer 'anjali', a special prayer to the goddess. People adorned in traditional attires were spotted in long queues in almost every pandals (marquees) in the 'City of Joy', waiting for their turn to offer the special prayer since dawn. This year, the Sandhi puja has been performed in the morning itself.
